Former Clackamas County Chair Tootie Smith has been tapped by the Trump administration for a Department of Agriculture job.

Smith, who was unseated by former county Sheriff Craig Roberts last fall, will serve as the head of the Oregon Farm Service Agency, as first reported by Oregon City News . The agency assists farmers, ranchers and agricultural landowners through loans, income support and disaster recovery, among other things.

“When rural America succeeds, our entire country is stronger,” U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins said in a press release Thursday. “These newly appointed USDA state directors will play a critical role in advancing President Trump’s America First agenda in the states and ensuring that our farmers and ranchers are prioritized.”
