As the college football teams of Kansas State University and Iowa State University prepare to face off in Ireland, politicians are making public bets on the rivalry game.

K-State and Iowa State kick off the 2025 season Aug. 23 in Dublin with the Aer Lingus College Football Classic.

Friendly bets among politicians are common for big games and offer a chance to showcase local businesses and cuisine. When the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles faced off in the Super Bowl, the bets included Philly cheesesteaks and KC barbecue , among other products.

While fans of the two land-grant schools often characterize their agricultural pride in terms of wheat for Kansas and corn for Iowa, the politician bets over Farmageddon showcased meat instead of grain.
