CASS COUNTY, Mo. —
An Ohio woman is facing charges in Cass County after investigators said she posed as a bail bonds courier to collect $25,000 in a “grandparent scam.”
Court records say Leslie Sellards went to a rural Garden City residence on April 16, 2024, after a victim was tricked into believing her grandson had been arrested in Omaha, Nebraska. Advertisement
Detectives said the victim was told by a caller claiming to be an attorney named “Mark Albers” to withdraw $25,000 for bond money.
The victim placed the cash inside a box, which was then handed to Sellards when she arrived at the home in a silver Kia Soul, court records said.
The victim later contacted her grandson and learned he was never in jail.
