ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Several people had to be rescued after heavy rain flooded parts of Roanoke Thursday night, leaving cars stalled and roads impassable.
Flooding hit Peters Creek Road and Shaffer’s Crossing hard, with drivers trapped in rising water. Emergency crews responded to multiple rescues, though officials confirmed no injuries.
Alicia Shortt, who drives along Peters Creek Road several times a week, said she almost didn’t recognize the road.
“I couldn’t even tell that it was Peters Creek Road for a second until I saw the church,” Shortt said. “I haven’t seen that covered in a long time.”
On Frontage Road, residents woke up to find part of the roadway collapsed from the heavy rain.
