BINGHAMTON N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - This Sunday marks the 34th anniversary of Ukraine's restored independence, and the city of Binghamton hosted a special ceremony today in its honor.

Many gathered outside of Binghamton City Hall with Ukrainian flags, clothing and songs to commemorate Independence Day and stand in solidarity as Ukraine is still at war with Russia after three long years since Russia invaded.

Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham declared today as Ukrainian Independence Day in the city of Binghamton.

He says that this flag raising ceremony isn't only being done amidst the war, as Ukrainian independence has been celebrated in Binghamton for many years.
