Hurricanes leave a path of devastation when they hit, and some of the storms can cost astronomical sums of money.
There have been 67 U.S. hurricanes since 1980 that have cost more than a billion dollars when adjusted for inflation, with just under a third occurring in the 2020s alone. Latest Forecast

It adds up. Those 67 storms cost the U.S. over $1.5 trillion dollars, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
When adjusted for inflation, Hurricane Katrina in 2005 was the most expensive. Damage was estimated around $200 billion — more than all five of 2024’s costliest hurricanes (Beryl, Debby, Francine, Helene and Milton) combined.
