Gaithersburg man wins $50K Powerball prize with eye on $700M jackpot

GAITHERSBURG, MD — A Montgomery County man says he is thrilled with his recent $50,000 Powerball win but is already setting his sights on the record-breaking jackpot still up for grabs.

The auto industry worker claimed his prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters on August 20, four days after purchasing the winning ticket at the 7-Eleven located at 6848 Olney–Laytonsville Road. He bought the ticket on August 16 when he noticed the Powerball jackpot had surpassed $600 million.

The player admitted he set the ticket aside for nearly two days before checking the results, only to discover it matched enough numbers for a third-tier $50,000 win. His biggest win prior to this was $20.
