The man police arrested for suspected cat poisoning in a Biscayne Park neighborhood spoke out Friday, telling NBC6 that he did not intend to kill two cats.

Chaim Gubitz admitted that he put out plates and trays of food with poison around his home to kill rats, not cats. According to Biscayne Park Police, two cats are dead, and a vet has already determined one of the cats died from poisoning.

“If I would know it would harm an animal, I would never put it out,” Gubitz said. “Animal cruelty, I have my own animals, I love animals. How could you accuse me of that?”

Gubitz said he is building next door. When he dug up for the pool, there were rats and mice everywhere. That's when he put out traps and poison in the alley behind his home.
