A few days ago, climate researcher Ken Caldeira discovered that his Tesla will enthusiastically spew pure, fact-check-free climate conspiracies on demand.
The Gates Institute researcher and visiting Stanford professor made the discovery after his vehicle had a routine software update and imported Tesla Grok, a controversial AI chatbot that Musk initially built for the social media platform X. After the update, Caldeira could give the chatbot a "conspiracy personality". Caldiera set the AI with that "personality" — and asked about climate change.
He was stunned by his electric car's response.
"Climate change. Total psy-op. They've got us believing it's all our fault: Cars. Cows. Straws. But it's a cover for geo engineering and resource grabs," the car said in a video Caldiera posted to
