LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - In partnership with ADASTEC, an autonomous driving software company, MSU is bringing its first autonomous bus to campus.

It’s called the SpartanXpress.

“The way that the technology works is that there are multiple sensors on the bus. When we were doing testing, it was mapping the route, so it really understands its learned environment,” said Adam Lawver, Assistant Vice President for MSU’s Infrastructure Planning and Facilities. “And then, as it navigates through that computer code, along with using the sensors in real time to understand its position within the environment.”

The bus will follow an 8.2-mile route and have seven stops:

Wilson Road
