BUFFALO, N.Y. — In the week since Erie County Narcotics and Intelligence Chief Daniel “D.J.” Granville left a Buffalo courthouse with a criminal conviction on his record, the scandal has not died down.

Sheriff John C. Garcia tried to quell the controversy this week by announcing Granville's 30-day suspension and by saying that Granville would pay some type of restitution to county taxpayers.

But those steps have failed to satisfy lawmakers who say the larger concern is how Granville’s involvement in the series of crashes was concealed not only by the Sheriff's Office but by Buffalo Police, whose officers have refused to cooperate with the Niagara County District Attorney’s criminal investigation.
