MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Madison officials are warning pedestrians to avoid the Capital Springs State Trail near Madison Metropolitain Sewerage District’s Nine Springs Wastewater Treatment Plant in South Madison as emergency repairs are being made after a sewer overflowed.
According to a release on Friday, the district is working to address a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) that is on the plant property and adjacent to the trail.
That segment of the trail is closed because crews need to use heavy equipment for the emergency repair.
Officials were first notified of the SSO by a trail user at around 12:30 p.m.
Authorities stated they do not know when the overflow began or how many gallons of wastewater have been released.
