SEATTLE — Expect to see increased wildfire smoke in the Puget Sound region this weekend that could diminish air quality amid several days of hot temperatures .

Smoke from the Island Creek Wildfire near Elk City, Idaho, will blow west and is forecast to make its way in the area by Saturday. The smoke will last through the weekend.

Though the smoke could be relatively light overall, those with asthma or others who are sensitive should limit time outdoors if the air quality is reduced.

As of Friday afternoon, there were a few areas in western Washington reporting "moderate" air quality.

The smoke is blowing into the region as high pressure continues to build in the area and winds shift. That sinking air is helping trap wildfire smoke closer to the ground.
