The Blue Jays got their first look at Shane Bieber, a former Cy Young Award winner who hasn’t pitched in the majors since April of last season when he was a member of the Cleveland Guardians.
Of all the moves, and there were many, engineered at last month’s MLB trade deadline, the one that reverberated was the Jays’ acquisition of Bieber, who was in the midst of making his long road back following elbow surgery.
As far as first impressions, it could not have gone any better for Bieber and the Blue Jays.
A hit batter in the first inning, a hit that left the yard in the second, a three-up, three-down third, the new-look Bieber looked like the old Bieber, who turned 30 on May 31.
More starts will follow before the post-season begins as the Jays continue to evaluate their starting rotation
