DETROIT -- Zach McKinstry homered, tripled and turned heads with a daring dash from first to home, sparking the Detroit Tigers to a 7-5 comeback win over the Kansas City Royals in Friday night’s series opener at Comerica Park.

The Tigers (77-53) have won four straight and eight of their last nine, extending their lead over the Royals (66-63) to 10 1/2 games in the American League Central.

With the score tied at 3, McKinstry led off the seventh with a shot back to the mound that rebounded off Royals reliever Bailey Falter. He hustled down the line to beat out an infield single.
