DEQUINCY, La. – Families in DeQuincy came together to celebrate National Night Out, an event designed to strengthen bonds between first responders and the community.

The evening featured a parade, with police, firefighters, and other first responders handing out water balloons and spraying water to help families beat the heat. Kids were encouraged to dress up as their favorite heroes, adding a playful touch to the community event.

DeQuincy Fire Chief Johnny Copeland says the event is all about connection.

“The purpose of the event is for outreach to the community. To give back to the community. To give first responders and the police department a chance to mix with the community. To let the kids see who we are, that we’re here to help, and helping in every way we can.”
