ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing a teenager during a drug deal, according to the Gwinnett County district attorney.

The district attorney said Malachi Perkins, 23, shot and killed 16-year-old Davone Burnett during a drug deal in December 2020.

Burnett and a friend had met Perkins at an apartment complex in Lawrenceville to buy marijuana. They paid Perkins $8 and Perkins left without handing over the drugs.

According to the district attorney, Burnett and his friend waited for 40 minutes before calling his sister’s boyfriend for a ride.

The sister’s boyfriend knew Perkins, and saw him when he arrived at the complex.
