It makes perfect sense to remove some of the traffic signals downtown, but it’s an ominous decision nonetheless.

Making busy drivers wait for a light to change where there are no cars using the cross street is a waste of time and city infrastructure, and is an invitation to red-light running.

There are multiple intersections in the downtown area that see very little traffic. So little, in fact, that in many instances a two-way or four-way stop sign would be better for keeping that little bit of traffic moving, and likely make the downtown more convenient for motorists.

With the way things are going, downtown Toledo could end up resembling some of the one-light or no-light towns around rural northwest Ohio.
