Property taxes are likely to increase for majority of homeowners next year
It is a close call when trying to work out which is the more hated burden: USC or the property tax. Both are vestiges of the bailout, with their introduction mandated by the Troika.
The local property tax (LPT) was brought in more than a decade ago, and the rationale given for its introduction was the broadening of the tax base. Over-dependence on a select few taxes had been a huge contributory factor in the near collapse of the economy.
