PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It was a huge show of support on Friday for the family of the 16-year-old who was killed at Maryvale High School this week. Several hundred filled the sidewalk outside the campus for a candlelight vigil for Michael Montoya II .
Many attendees came wearing black and yellow in his honor. The school parking lots were closed, so it was street parking only, with many people parking several blocks away to attend.
For more than an hour after it began, Some were carrying flowers, some with balloons or candles.
“When you hear something happens during the time that they should be safe, you know it just, it just turns your world upside down,” said April Wheeler, a local parent.
