ELEPHANT BUTTE, N.M. (KRQE) – The most popular lake in the state is currently nearly empty, and a local group is demanding that the state take action to save it. Elephant Butte Lake is sitting at just over three percent of its full capacity. Officials state that there has never been a time when the lake was completely empty, but if conditions do not change soon, that could become a reality.
