It was called a “gruesome” start for a Frederick City program.
One Saturday morning in 1952, traffic was moving through Frederick as shoppers came into town. “Then suddenly as if from out of nowhere the grind of motors and the sound of exhausts were interrupted by the screeching of brakes the scream of tires and then all was still. A boy and his bike lay crushed and broken between the dual wheels of a loaded tractor trailer on highway 40 USA,” Optimist Magazine reported.
