QUINCY TWP., MI — Village Manager Ryan Smead told the council on Aug. 19 that the village and township are awaiting attorney approval to begin a 30-day trial of expanded police patrols township-wide before pursuing a formal contract.
Both began discussions last month concerning the reinstatement of joint policing. The township cancelled the contract started in 2014 in May 2023 because it could not afford the $24,000 a year annual cost.
Originally, Smead and Police Chief Dalton Turmell proposed that the village charge the township for the times and mileage for the 30-day test.
Smead went to the township on Aug. 6 to request that the township fund a portion of the $10,500 cost to send recruit Travis Hurley to the police academy.
