The Weld County district attorney has cleared a Greeley police officer of charges for the fatal shooting of a man wielding a knife in May.
The incident dates back to May 14, when Greeley police received reports of a man, later identified as Sean Ybarra, brandishing a knife in the 500 block of 16th Avenue. An officer found Ybarra swinging the knife at passing cars in the 1900 block of 2nd Street.
The officer shot Ybarra after he began to “quickly” approach the officer, not complying with his commands to drop the weapon, police said.
Police began performing life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived on the scene. Ybarra was pronounced dead shortly after.
