When 6-year-old Liam Lagunas was killed in a wreck on U.S. 74 on June 26, 2021, his mother, Brandi Birrittier, had trouble imagining a future without him.

“I didn’t envision tomorrow because the grief was just consuming me,” she said.

At the time of his death, Liam had been on his way to visit his father, Santiago Lagunas, at Lagunas’ home in Kings Mountain.
