JONESBORO — Brown Elementary third grader Jamir Wanza dreams of being sheriff one day and he recently had the chance to meet Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen, who made the local student a junior deputy.

“Seeing Jamir’s expression reminded me of why it’s so important to remain visible to our youth,” Allen said. “When we invest in our young people early, we plant seeds that grow into dedication, service and leadership. I look forward to witnessing Jamir’s journey unfold.”

On Aug. 14, Allen, Clayton County Superintendent Anthony W. Smith and other school system officials visited the school to surprise Wanza.

Wanza previously told Smith of his dream of becoming sheriff so Smith arranged for the visit.
