West-central Montana

Across west-central Montana, hunters should experience an average year for forest grouse and wild turkeys. While the winter of 2024-25 was mild with relatively low snowpack, spring weather can impact conditions for nesting and brood-rearing. Spring 2025 weather conditions were fairly dry, and much of western Montana was experiencing drought conditions. Therefore, there could be some local impacts on insects and other food sources, although berry production and late summer precipitation has been good so far. We are receiving reports of females with broods, so the impacts are likely to be variable throughout the landscape.
