PHOENIX — The family of Michael Montoya was surrounded by loved ones and those in the community who wanted to show them their love and support.

They gathered outside Maryvale High School in Phoenix, where Montoya was a student. On Tuesday, the Phoenix Police Department said Montoya was stabbed in the middle of class and died. Police identified the suspect as Chris Aguilar, who is also a student.

Montoya's Aunt Johanna Campos told 12News the family is devastated by the death of their loved one but said all the support they've received from the community has helped them. Many of those supporters, like Cathy Diaz, showed up with flowers and wrote messages to honor Montoya.

“We will always love you, Michael," Diaz said. "Remember you forever here at Maryvale school. We miss you so much.”
