NEW YORK (PIX11) – It's a beautiful Saturday and beaches across New York state are back open after Hurricane Erin moved further away from the East Coast.
New York City beaches reopened after the storm brought dangerous rip and surf currents, according to the Parks Department. New Yorkers are encouraged to only swim in areas where lifeguards are present.
Swimming is also now allowed at Jones Beach and knee-level wading at Robert Moses State Park, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul. Lifeguards may put restrictions in place if the surf becomes unsafe again.
Hochul said Hither Hills State Park, in Montauk, is still closed to swimming. To find all state-owned beaches, click here.
