A 66-year-old man is fighting for his life after he was hit by a van while crossing a street in Scarborough on Friday afternoon.

Toronto police say officers responded to the collision involving a pedestrian in the area of Lawrence Ave. E. and Bellamy Rd. N. shortly after 2 p.m.

A 61-year-old man driving a red van made a left turn from eastbound Lawrence to southbound Bellamy and struck the senior citizen, Const. Sinderela Chung said in a statement released Saturday.

She said the driver remained at the scene following the collision.

“The pedestrian was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries,” Chung said.

No further details have been released.
