WATSONVILLE — For most people, the word “salsa” has two different associations. The first is a condiment that provides a spicy zest to numerous Mexican entrees and pairs perfectly as a dip for tortilla chips. The second is a style of Latin American music with its own associated dance, often involving a partner.
Both definitions of salsa will be present for the return of a two-day event at the Gene Hoularis and Waldo Rodriguez Youth Center in Watsonville, featuring a salsa-making contest and a live salsa concert by San Francisco-based band Candela, led by Edgardo Cambón. It is appropriately known as Salsa y Salsa and will be spicing things up at the youth center Sept. 12 to 13.
