A woman was killed Friday morning after her sedan crashed and caught fire on northbound State Route 17, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 11:23 a.m. north of Jarvis Road, officials said.

Investigators said the vehicle struck the center median barrier before veering toward the east shoulder and hitting a metal guardrail, where it ignited.

Despite life-saving efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP noted. Her name has not been released.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were factors.
