The State Highway Patrol, working with the Summit County Sheriff's Office, will set up a driver checkpoint somewhere on South Main Street in Akron on Saturday, Aug. 23, between 8 p.m. and midnight.

The patrol announced the checkpoint in a news release hours before it was scheduled to begin. It didn't cite a specific location on South Main.

The checkpoint is funded by federal grants aimed at deterring and stopping impaired drivers, the patrol said.

Law enforcement will also do "saturation patrols" near the checkpoint to target potential drunk or drugged drivers.
