August 23, 1856 - The city of Fremont was created.
Named after the Republic Party’s nominee for president in 1856, the city of Fremont was established in August of that year.
John C. Fremont did not when the race. He was most well known for leading two expeditions to explore the Great Plains, Rocky Mountains and Great Basin. He passed through the Platte Valley in 1842, which is why the city of Fremont bears his name.
