WASHINGTON — An American Airlines Phoenix-bound flight from Philadelphia was forced to land at Washington Dulles International Airport after a fire was reported in the passenger rows.
In a statement, the airline said a crew member saw smoke issuing from a “customer’s device,” but they declined to specify what kind of device it may have been.
“The device was quickly contained by crew members prior to landing,” an airline spokesperson said.
Flight 357 was on its way to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport when it was diverted, the FAA told Phoenix television station KPNX.
American Airlines said the flight landed safely around 11:50 a.m. on Saturday, with 160 passengers and six crew members on board.
