Portions of Eastern North Carolina is facing a soggy night ahead as a coastal low lifts north along our shoreline. This system will deliver periods of heavy rain , especially along and east of Highway 17, where totals could top 1–2 inches, with isolated 3-inch amounts. A Flood Watch is in effect for coastal counties through Sunday afternoon.
On top of that, minor coastal flooding remains a concern with tonight’s high tide around 8:30 PM from Ocracoke northward to Duck. Elevated water levels, large swells, and vulnerable dune lines may worsen issues for the Outer Banks. Beachgoers will also contend with rough surf and dangerous rip currents.
