HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Huntsville Police Department is investigating a shootout that happened in a shopping center parking lot on University Drive on Saturday.

According to HPD, the shooting happened at the 4700 block of University Drive at about 4:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found that two businesses with people inside had been hit by gunshots. A third business had also been hit, but there were no people inside.

HPD said one person arrived at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

HPD's says its preliminary information shows that a fight happened between people outside the businesses, which escalated to a shootout.

A member of HPD's Violent Crimes Unit responded to lead the investigation.
