GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The clock is ticking for lawmakers in Lansing to finish the state budget before the new fiscal year starts Oct. 1.
"To The Point" asked Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks, D-Grand Rapids, about what she sees as the holdup.
“It seems like (Richland Republican) Matt Hall, the speaker of the House, would like to control every single line of the budget," Brinks said. "He seems to be very proud that he is the one who is reviewing each and every tiny detail. And don’t get me wrong: There’s a place for deliberation, but there’s also a case for efficiency and in the case of the House, his individual deliberation and controlling every aspect of the budget has really been the shortcoming of our ability to get the entire process through the Legislature.”
