PHOENIX — A four-year-old boy was walking slightly ahead of his mother when he was hit and killed by a car last Monday night.

Miguel Dominguez and his mom were in a crosswalk near 36th Street and McDowell Road when the car hit both of them. The mother was not hurt, but Dominguez's injuries were severe and he did not survive, according to Phoenix police.

The crash happened less than a mile from Magical Star Pre-School, where Dominguez had been going to school for the past two years.

“He was just the brightest light. He used to be one of the shiest kids that I knew, and this last year, he actually came out of his shell so much," Jessica Layton, his former teacher, said.
