In the blink of an eye, a very good start from Jose Berrios didn’t seem so good when he gave up three straight hits in the seventh inning to end his day.

In a flash, a 4-0 Blue Jays lead disappeared in the late innings when the visitors took their foot off the gas, while the host Miami Marlins showed a pesky edge.

When all was said and done, the second game of a three-game series would require extra innings.

Relinquishing a lead against an inferior opponent is never recommended.

And to think the Jays prevented a Marlins run by executing a great relay sequence before the tag was applied at home plate.

Jeff Hoffman’s failure to close out a 4-3 game in the ninth inning didn’t inspire confidence knowing stressful games of far greater significance await.
