ROSELAND, La. (WAFB) - Smitty’s Supply is the focus of an explosion, but federal reports show the plant has had issues in the past.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Smitty’s had two incidents reported in the last five years. One of them was deadly.

One report said on August 28, 2020, an employee was performing welding work on a dock plate when a semi tractor trailer proceeded to back into the dock. The employee was struck by the semi and killed. According to the report, Smitty’s was fined $5,851.

In a second report dated May 3, 2021, an employee working as a production coordinator for a petroleum supplier was purging a production line. Hot grease sprayed from the line onto the employee. The employee was hospitalized to treat second and third-degree
