CINCINNATI (WXIX) - The Military and Veterans Appreciation Day celebration wrapped up at Sawyer Point Park Saturday.

Marthe Liggett is a retired combat medic and enlisted nurse who served in the U.S. Army during Desert Storm.

She tells FOX19 NOW that events like this are crucial for both the public and veterans in preserving the sacrifices made for our country.

Liggett joined the Greater Cincinnati Women’s Post 644 today at the event and says that being part of the group highlights even more the work veterans do after their time in the service.

“We give back more than what people know, and we keep it silent,” she says.

FOX19 NOW also spoke with Marine Veteran Cindy Scheets, who says days like today give her hope that one day there will be more recognition for veterans.
