SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A several hundred acre brush fire was burning on Camp Pendleton Saturday and road closures were in place on the Marine Corps Base.

The brush fire -- dubbed the Charger Fire -- broke out around 3:30 p.m. Saturday near Basilone Road and Las Pulgas Road on Camp Pendleton, according to a spokesperson with the Marine Corps Base.

The brush fire was first reported to be burning around 200 acres. Forward progress on the fire was stopped around 6:30 p.m. at 400 acres with Camp Pendleton Fire crews reporting 20% containment.

The Marine Corps Base Saturday evening closed Basilone Road from Robillard Road to Las Pulgas Road until further notice due to the brush fire.
