Cherokee County wrapped up early voting on Friday, with just over 6,800 voters casting a ballot ahead of the Aug. 26 special election.
Two seats are on the ballot: the Georgia Senate District 21 seat formerly held by U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach that represents parts of Cherokee and north Fulton counties, and the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners seat for District 1, representing north Cherokee, formerly held by Steve West, who resigned to run for Beach’s seat.
Each vacancy has drawn a wide field of candidates.
Seven candidates are running for Beach’s state Senate seat: Republicans Lance Calvert, Jason Dickerson, Stephanie Donegan, Brice Futch, Steve West and Brian Will, and Democrat Debra Shigley.
Six are running for West’s spot on the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners :
