Nearly 100 microschools are registered in Arkansas' Educational Freedom Accounts program this school year, with about 1,500 approved students being served by those institutions, state Department of Education officials confirmed Friday.

At least one of those institutions, a Christian microschool in Star City, is entirely funded through the accounts, while administrators at other microschools said accounts nearly covered their expenses and still others said only a handful of their students received program funds.

"We made the tuition the cost of the EFA scholarship, so no one's having to pay anything out of pocket," said Rebecca McGee, co-director of Star City Christian Academy. She said the academy, which held its ribbon cutting earlier this month, enrolled 67 students of racially and soc
