A unanimous choice for appointment to Maumee City Council after a long deadlock on the decision provides solid hope that the rancor that has rocked Maumee can be resolved and civic harmony restored.

Chelsea Ziss won the appointment on the strength of a presentation to council that captured the challenges and opportunities confronting Maumee.

Ms. Ziss is a bridge between Maumee city government and the citizens who united to oppose city policy on rental inspection, sewer repair assessments, and ultimately attempted to recall the mayor and all but one member of council.

A founding member of the Citizens of Maumee Action Committee, Ms. Ziss was the replacement candidate for mayor in the recall election, ultimately declared unlawful under the Maumee charter by the Ohio Supreme Court.
