SEASIDE Ore. (KPTV) - Hood to Coast, the “mother of all relays,” ended in Seaside on Saturday after runners faced record-breaking heat during the 197-mile-long race that started Friday on Mt. Hood.

This year, more than 19,000 runners from around the globe took part in the grueling relay.

“The heat added a layer of difficulty. Everyone had to stay hydrated, ya know, crossing your fingers that you had shade,” Kerry Rae Connolly said.

As temperatures reached triple digits along some parts of the route on Friday and Saturday, business owners and people living along the route tried to help in any way possible.

David Loftus ran his first leg in Portland on Friday, but in the end, the heat was just too much to handle.
