Thunder and lightning have been reported in the Coachella Valley on Saturday, Aug. 23, coming as the region faces an extreme heat advisory through the evening.

Desert Sun staff reported lightning in Indio and La Quinta and hearing thunder in Palm Springs on Saturday. The National Weather Service San Diego said that a thunderstorm was reported at the Palm Springs International Airport as of 11 a.m. Saturday.

It comes amid a major heat wave that’s blanketed Southern California in recent days, with extreme heat warnings still in effect through 8 p.m. Saturday for Indio, Palm Springs, La Quinta, Palm Desert, and other parts of the Coachella Valley as “dangerously hot conditions” with temperatures of up to 112 degrees forecasted.
