A woman suffered a serious head injury when she was assaulted in Motherwell town centre.

Luke McKillop shoved the woman, causing her to fall back and strike her head against a wall. A member of the public who rushed to her aid found her head "soaked in blood".

Dad of three McKillop, 39, appeared from custody at Hamilton Sheriff Court. He admitted assaulting the woman to her severe injury in Brandon Parade East on October 1 last year. He also admitted to spitting on a police officer, reports Lanarkshire Live.

The court heard McKillop has previous convictions and was on early release from prison at the time. He was also under a supervision order. The assault happened around 4.30pm and was captured by CCTV cameras.
