The Dragon Bravo Fire has been plaguing Arizona ’s Grand Canyon National Park since the beginning of July, descimating the landscape with fast-moving flames and sending plumes of smoke into the canyon. The combination of fire damage and poor air quality forced major closures on both sides of the Grand Canyon, limiting access to some of its most popular trails.

With the Dragon Bravo Fire 63% contained, the smoke is starting to clear (literally and metaphorically). While visitors are celebrating the reopening of key trails along the Grand Canyon’s South Rim , it’s not all good news for one of America’s most iconic national parks. The North Rim, arguably the more underrated side of Grand Canyon National Park, has been permanently changed.
